Life goes on

Sometimes life throws you a challenge – and you are left with just one thing – to learn to deal with it. There is no escaping – no easy way out.
In the last year I have lost my dear father and one of my very best friends to cancer within a very short time of each other, – and it left me numb. It has taken me most of a year to work through this, to find out how to keep all ‘this’ in my life, and to move forward and keep living. This is the reason for the silence here on the blog, not having the creative energy to write nor paint.
But life goes on, – and mine with the memory of two lovely people, I was privileged to have in my life.
They were both ‘art people’ – and when I finally picked up the paintbrush again, I took inspiration from them. One loved watercolours, the other the colour black, and below you can see a few examples of my sketches inspired by them.

I will never forget them……………. Mi

Art in your home

One of the really nice things about painting is when people like what you have made.

I suppose, it’s that extra pad on the shoulder we all long for.

Therefore, – when I get a photo mailed to me of one of my paintings in its new home, it really warms my heart. It is just so nice to see your creation radiate a little bit of happiness into some ones home.

Ocean Blue

This little sea scape ended up on the wall of a lovely home in France, and it just looks perfect there.

If you happened to be a happy owner of one of my paintings and would like to see it featured here on my blog please email me at enquiries[at]coloursongrey.com.au and I will feature it together with its story of origin ( – that is if I can remember it ☺ )

Until next time …………

Nordic in Blue

It’s winter here on the Northern Tablelands and minus 10 degrees Celsius last night.

When I first moved to Australia I didn’t think it would get this cold here. The good thing about it is, –  it doesn’t last very long. 8-10 weeks of winter is all we get.

During these winter days I often think of my home country and my creativity reflects that. I recent made a new batch of cards in blue, black and white – very Nordic wintery colours.

NiB 2 NiB 1NiB3I named the series ‘Nordic in Blue’ and as usual these hand painted ‘one of a kind’ cards are individual numbered and set in a acid-free soft-white art-paper frame card. The cards are blank inside and comes with a very nice envelope.

These cards are now available from my website shop.

Today is the day…..

Today is the day of my exhibition COLOUR CONNECT opening – this afternoon at 4 pm at The Glen Innes Art Gallery and I am soooo excited. I am actually far to busy to sit here behind the computer, –  but just thought I would like to say thank you to all of you who have left lovely encouraging comments about my work here on the blog. Will be back in a few days with lots of photos 🙂

New printed cards

Another hectic day at The Glen Innes Art Gallery, – and it is looking good.

Com Card e

One of the things I have to do is to organise a display for my new printed cards. They are photo’s of artworks (or part of artworks) I have made over the years, then printed commercially with a nice envelope of recycled paper. I am really pleased how they have turned out and they will be available at COLOURS CONNECT 🙂

Later they will also be available from my website www.coloursongrey.com.au

Back to writing the catalogue for me now. – have a wonderful day !

Cheers, Marianne

Exhibitions – a gathering

It’s Wednesday morning after an exhausting and very long Tuesday working on COLOUR CONNECT at The Glen Innes Art Gallery. We managed to get most of the paintings up on the walls and a few more of the ceramics displayed. Today we hope to finish the actual installations so we can get on with writing catalogue and price tags. The work behind the scene for a self managed art exhibition is HUGE, – admittedly enjoyable – it’s a bit like preparing for a big family gathering. It takes months to prepare and in the week up to the event you work non stop. You do it because you love it and because you hope it will become one of those special memorable moments in your life.

In my case, I will actually have most of my family there on Saturday afternoon and many of my friends are travelling far to be there as well, – so these self-managed exhibitions does become a gathering of people close to me, – and for that I am very grateful, –  and it makes it all worth while.

Remember e

To all of you who can’t attend on Saturday, – all paintings from the exhibition will be on my website www.coloursongrey.com.au as of Sunday 1st December. Here’s the link Colour Connect and I will share plenty of images here on the blog.

COLOUR CONNECT open on Saturday 30th November at 4 pm at The Glen Innes Art Gallery and will stay open Sunday to Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm.

Until next time ……..

Getting ready for COLOUR CONNECT

It has been a ‘mad’ time leading up to the exhibition and I am now in the last week of this madness ( yay !! )

Yesterday was ‘moving and unpacking day’ and I was so tired by the end of the day I was in bed by 9 pm !

The car was loaded up several times ………………..

……….  and unloaded…………….   and un-packed at The Glen Innes Art Gallery.

We managed to do a little bit of setting up – not sure if we will stay with these displays, as Max is bringing in the majority of his ceramics today and tomorrow, –  we will probably come up with new and fresh ideas.

CC 1 e

This is all Max’s ceramics. Isn’t it beautiful !

CC2 e

This is the fun part. Setting up and making displays.

I am looking forward to the next couple of days. Hope you all are doing the same !

Until next time…..

Painting for my exhibition

I can’t believe it’s two months ago since I last wrote on my blog.

Life get’s busy and for the last couple of months I have been working very hard in the studio for my upcoming exhibition  ‘COLOUR CONNECT ‘ at The Glen Innes Art Gallery.

It is just a small exhibition in a small local art gallery, – but it still gets very involved. I started painting for this show back in April having fun with oil paint and a palette knife. The colours in these first paintings reflects the cold and frosty winters we experience up here in the Northern Highlands of NSW.

Snow Mountain Snow Mountain (oil on canvas) 26 x 20 cm

Blue MountainBlue Mountain (oil on canvas) 27 x 22 cm

Then I needed to paint a small painting for my cousins 50th birthday  – small in the way it would fit into her suitcase as the painting would have to travel back to Seattle. She was coming to Australia to visit and to celebrate her joining the 50+ club.

Again I put my creativity on the line – giving it away as a present – again I was a bit nervous about it ( what if she didn’t like it ? ) – again I was lucky, – she loved it.

Landscape GreenLandscape for Michelle (oil on canvas) 32 x 32 cm

Painting this special painting for her took me down a new path of painting with oils and a series of small landscape paintings developed. They are now all framed and ready to show.

‘Colour Connect’ opens on Saturday 30th November at 4 pm and will stay open from Sunday 1st December to Thursday 5th December 10 am to 4 pm.
